End of Watch: Thursday, August 13, 1925 Biographical Info Sheriff Ellis was shot and killed in an ambush in front of the county jail. He was walking a prisoner into the jail when he was shot in the back of the head. No suspects were ever identified. |

| Deputy Sheriff John Wesley West | |
End of Watch: Monday, March 7, 1927 Incident Details Deputy John West died two days after being accidentally shot by another deputy. Both deputies had gone to a movie theatre in Robbins, Tennessee to interrogate a local doctor. The doctor observed the deputies approaching him and reached in his pocket. The other deputy fired three shots. Two of the shots struck the doctor killing him. The other round struck Deputy West in the right abdomen. Deputy West was rushed to Howard-Henderson Hospital in Knoxville where he succumbed to his wounds at 2200 hours the following Monday. |

| Deputy Sheriff Levi Harness | |
End of Watch: Sunday, February 11, 1962 Incident Details Deputy Harness and Constable Alvin Jeffers, of the Scott County Fifth District Constable's Office, were shot and killed as they and two other officers attempted to serve warrants on a man and his wife near Winfield. When they entered the darkened house, the husband and his son opened fire on the officers. Constable Jeffers was struck in the chest and another officer was grazed in the head. The two remaining officers took up positions on either side of the house, as the wounded officer drove Constable Jeffers to a local hospital where he died later that evening. Deputy Harness took up a position in the front of the house and the second deputy took up a position in the rear of the house. After several minutes, the suspects opened fire again, striking Deputy Harness three times, killing him. They then fled the scene. Both men turned themselves in several days later. |

End of Watch: Saturday, January 18, 1964 Biographical Info Incident Details Deputy Koger was shot and killed while serving a warrant. The suspect was shot and killed by other deputies at the scene when he began shooting at them as well. |

| Sergeant Hubert Dean Yancey | |
End of Watch: Friday, November 28, 2003 Biographical Info Incident Details Sergeant Hubert Yancey was accidentally shot and killed when he and two other deputies went to a home on Williams Creek Road. They were there to interview several subjects about a suspected meth lab. One deputy went inside to search the mobile home after one of the suspects granted him permission. The other three deputies remained outside to guard exit points. The deputy inside of the home noticed someone hiding in a closet and holding what appeared to be a weapon. The deputy took cover when the closet door opened and two women in the home began screaming. Sergeant Yancey, thinking the deputy was in trouble, entered the home armed with a shotgun. The deputy who was already inside saw Deputy Yancey's silhouette, and thinking he was an armed suspect, fired one round, striking Deputy Yancey just above his vest. Three suspects fled the scene but were quickly apprehended. A total of four suspects were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine but were not charged in connection with Deputy Yancey's death. Sergeant Yancey had served with the Scott County Sheriff's Department for 6 years, and is survived by his wife, three sons, and father. |
